From January 21st-28th, Whistler Village will be hosting the 26th annual Whistler Pride and Ski Festival. Since Whistler is a huge advocate for inclusivity, this festival is dear to our hearts and we can't wait to celebrate diversity. Named the No. 1 LBGTQ winter event by gaytravel.com, you're not going to want to miss the skiing, parties and other events that are held over the week. Here is everything you need to know about the Whistler Pride experience!
Celebrating their 26th year, the Whistler Pride and Ski was launched back in 1992 by founder Brent Benaschak. Since then, it has become more than just a festival. In 2012, the mayor recognized it as a civic event and in commemoration of its 25th anniversary, rainbow crosswalks were painted. Sadly, founder Brent Beneschak passed away in 2003 but since then, Gay Whistler CEO Dean Nelson has transformed the event into a full-blown festival, marrying both skiing and non-skiing activities to better suit everyone.Â
The Whistler Pride Ski Guides can be found at 9:45am every morning at the lightboard next to Peak2Peak. From here, groups of various levels will be formed and set out to begin exploring Whistler Mountain. Â With the help of the guides, ski groups will get to meet new friends and ski the terrain that the resort is known for.Â
In addition to skiing, the entertainment is sure to knock your socks off! There are world-renowned comedians, DJ's and of course, parties to experience.Â
