Once June comes along, the transition from spring to summer is complete. The temperatures are hovering in the high teens, the sun shines more often than not, and the days are at their longest point of the year. But that's not all the June brings to the mountains. This special month is filled with unique events, activities, and natural phenomenons only found during this time of the year. As if you need any further convincing but in case you do, here's what's happening during June in Whistler.
Date: June 1
Described as one of Canada's most scenic runs, the Whistler Half Marathon has 5 distances to choose from: a 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and 1 km kids run, and a 30 km. Participants are taken on gravel and roads, along waterways and under tree canopies. The experience is not only limited to participants. This run has an exciting spectator atmosphere in a festival-like setting.
Date: June 15 - June 16
Tough Mudder is back for the 8th year! And it's only getting tougher. This year is extreme with 10 new or updated obstacles on every single course. Participants will face 15 obstacles in the Classic and 13 in the 5K course. If you're not feeling it, come help cheer on the athletes as they make their way through mud, water, and even electricity!
Date: Starting in June after Whistler Mountain stops its winter operations.Â
Once Whistler Mountain opens for summer sightseeing after it closes for winter operations, Whistler Blackcomb clears a path to Peak Chair. It's this process that forms the Snow Walls. This unique experience is completely dependent on snow pack levels and temperatures so get up there and experience it while you still can.
Date: From mid June until late August.
The hills are alive with WILD FLOWERS! Once the snow melts, there's no stopping the purple Fireweed or red Indian Paintbrush from erupting through the newly uncovered soil. For hikers, this is a welcome sight, adding a glorious array of colour to the mountainsides. Many of the plants go through their life cycle from the middle of the month right through until the end of summer, so there's plenty of time to catch nature's miracle.
Date: Every Sunday from 11am until 4pm.Â
You know it's summer when the Whistler Farmer's Market hits the upper village. Feast on locally made treats, shop artisan goods, and enjoy the live entertainment. The bustling market is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday.
