Whistler Summer Vacation

Planning Your Whistler Summer Vacation

To all those “always-on-top-of-things” folk, we commend you for planning your summer vacation to Whistler before the snow has even begun to melt! We’d like to follow suit, and provide you with all you need to know about summering in Whistler.

Whistler Summer Activity Must-Do by Season

Mountain Biking
Season: Mid May to end October

Essentially, the bike season starts when the snow melts. Skiers and riders swap skis and snowboards for cross country and downhill bikes. Not much of a turnover! But this is no challenge for the Bike Park Trail Crew, who works around the clock in April and May to get the trails ready to ride. You can expect fantastic conditions all the time in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park - the largest bike park in the world, which boasts the biggest network of cross country trials. Bike Park Guide, Dusan Mihalecko says “a misconceived notion is that the trails are dominated by professionals, but this is not the case! There are trials for all levels, from beginners to experts, and lessons and camps too!”

Season: All Summer

Experience the exhilaration of stepping off a platform, sailing 2300′ through air, dropping over 20 stories from start to finish on one of the world’s longest tree to tree ziplines, all whilst reaching speeds of up to 80km/h! The ride is smooth as you glide through the ancient rainforest and over the rushing whitewaters of Fitzsimmons Creek between Whistler & Blackcomb Mountains. No matter the weather, ziptrek tours are enjoyable because the treetop platforms are covered and heated, and as long as you dress appropriately you’ll have no complaints!

Whitewater Rafting
Season: Late June to Early August

When the snow melts, the rivers around Whistler run white and fast. To catch the perfect river levels plan to raft in late June to early August, when the rivers will be nice roaring. Catch all the thrills of white water rafting, from mild to wild, as certified guides navigate you safely through haystacks and holes on the Green, Lower Cheakamus, Elaho and Squamish rivers. Tours will run rain or shine - awesome wet weather activity since you’ll be getting wet anyways!

Alpine Hiking
Season: July and August

Singing Pass, High Note and Rainbow - just the sound of these trials alludes to something beautiful and almost majestic, and believe me, that they are. When you get above the clouds into the alpine, you’ll see that British Columbia is a beautiful place, and you’ll understand why the guy who designed BC’s license plates couldn’t come up with anything else as a slogan. By July, all Whistler and Blackcomb’s mountaintop hikes are snow-free, making it the ideal time to hike to where the alpine wildflowers bloom. Hiking any earlier than July, you run the risk of unsafe conditions due to rain fall and snowmelt. Grab a map and explore the trails or your own or join a hiking tour to meet new friends. And remember with a sightseeing pass you can ride the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola for easy access to and from alpine trails ... trust me, you’re tired legs will thank you after a long day of exploring.

Lazy Rivering
Season: July and August on any hot, sunny day

Want to explore Whistler like a true local? Yes! Then head to the IGA or Whistler Hardware Store and pick yourself up a $40.00 Explorer 200 blow up raft, and slowly meander down the River of Golden Dreams. Along this narrow, rapid free river you’ll meet locals soaking up the sun and having a laugh. It takes about two hours to complete the self guided lazy river tour, and you’ll pop out at Green Lake, by the Nicklaus North Golf Course. Deflate your raft and walk or bus back to Whistler Village. Complete all of the above and you’re guaranteed to have a great time, and meet a few locals along the way!
