Forged Axe Throwing

There's a new activity in town that you can add to your list of things to do in Whistler and it's about as Canadian as it gets! Forged Axe is located in Function Junction and is Whistler’s only indoor axe throwing venue. 

The sport (Yes, it's a sport!) of Axe throwing has been around since prehistoric times. It's very similar to archery in that the competitor aims to hit a bullseye or target with an object, in this case, an axe. This sport can be found at lumberjack competitions and requires a practiced skill to be any good at it. You see, a skilled Axe thrower will rotate the throwing axe exactly once throughout the flight so that the sharpened edge of the head will penetrate the target. 

Forged Axe was formed in 2017 but the concept of opening this idea up to the public was dreamed up in the backcountry of British Columbia. The creators found themselves on a week long backcountry rafting trip and threw an axe to pass the time. They had no idea that it was an actual sport but during that week, they grew and even became addicted to the art of axe throwing. They felt newly found passion needed to be shared with others. Upon returning, they were pleasantly surprised to find out that one can actually compete at axe throwing, in fact, places to enjoy the sport were popping up all over Canada. The realization led to the birth of Forged Axe as we know it today.

To relish Forged, you need to be over 16 years of age. You can enjoy a drop in session or if you fall in love with the "satisfying thunk" of the axe connecting to the target, you can join the Axe Throwing League that meets every Monday night! This activity is also open to groups so if you are planning a stag or stagette, why not throw an axe to start the party. You are free to bring your own food since there isn't any served on premise and wonder next door to enjoy a beer at Coast Mountain Brewery once you have thrown to your heart's content.
