WHISTLER LIFE

Deep Winter

A very common question we get here at Whistler Reservations, is what time of the year should I come to Whistler? Whenever is our standard response. However, for those looking for more of an exact answer, deep winter is a great time to be in the mountains. Deep winter is the period from early to late January. It takes place after the holiday season and some distinct characteristics that make it a very desirable time to travel. Just what is so great about deep winter in Whistler?

Snow and lots of it!

The season is in full swing and this generally means that Mother Nature has delivered the goods. In January, you can expect there to already be a solid base as well as consistent new snowfall. In fact, Whistler Blackomb suggests that it is wise to be prepared to rent powder skis if you don't already have them. Hint hint!

Everything is open!

Since the snow has been falling for a few months by the time deep winter hits, all of 8,171 acres of skiable terrain is open and ready to be explored. This includes glades, bowls, and groomed runs. What's more, the time period after the holidays is notoriously quiet. You can expect fewer lift lines and more time on the slopes.

Events and activities!

January hosts a number of exciting events, holidays, and activities. Australia Day, Martin Luther King Day, WinterPRIDE, and the Samsung Deep Winter Photo Challenge are a few of the events that take place during the first month of the year. There are also a number of activities such as the Fire and Ice show and Family Après. This means that in addition to unreal skiing, there's plenty of other things to do while in town.
