Heli-Skiing Whistler

Heli-Skiing Whistler

Heli-Skiing Whistler

Exclusive backcountry heli-skiing and snowboarding experiences in Whistler and the Coast Mountains of British Columbia.  Based out of Squamish and nestled between Whistler and Vancouver lies some of the most epic alpine and tree skiing. This area provides landscapes and terrain that any avid heli-skier or boarder could want, from steep alpine bowls to treeline cruisers.

Our partner, Phantom Heli-Skiing offers private, semi-private, multi-day and heli-assisted ski touring packages departing mostly from Squamish, all winter long.  You'll be collected from your Hotel or Residence and chauffeured to Squamish Airport where you will be provided with an overview of your heliski day and a safety briefing. Then the fun begins. A minimum of 3800 meters of vertical which equates to approximately 7+ runs will be the order of the day. A mountaintop catered lunch will give you the fuel you need to get back out there again for some fresh turns.

All packages include backcountry safety training & equipment (shovel, probe, beacon), lunch in the field, and a post-ski apres session.

Powder skis/boards and inflatable avalanche packs (ABS) are available for rent.

What does “Heli Time” mean?

Our heliski trips are billed by the amount of time used flying in the helicopter. The time is measured by the specific amount that the helicopter is actually holding power or flying. This equates to the time when the machine is actually in the air or taking off. This does not include the entrance, exits and time spent loading or unloading the machine. Just because the blades are spinning it does not mean that the machine is holding power and you are being billed. This allows us to take our time around the machine and load as slowly and safely as necessary.

What if I go over my heli time?

Your guide and pilot will be monitoring your flying time throughout the day. When you are approaching its limit your guide will have a conversation making you aware and asking you whether you would like to do more. Additional heli time will be charged to you at a rate of $3800/hour.

What should I wear?

It is best to prepare yourself for a day in the mountains heli-skiing as you would for a day on the ski hill. This includes a synthetic or wool base layer, a mid-weight insulation layer or puffy and shell pants and jacket. It is also nice to have a buff for blowing snow and sun, an extra pair of gloves and extra goggle lenses and sunglasses to deal with changing light conditions. Every guest will be skiing with their own day pack and it is encouraged that you pack as lightly as possible to get the most out of your ski experience. Depending on the group’s weight your guide may be able to pack an additional bag with extra clothes that can stay in the helicopter and be used as necessary.

Do you provide rental skis or snowboards?

Phantom Heli-skiing is happy to provide what gear we have for rent free of charge. For gear we cannot offer ourselves we can provide recommendations for rentals. Downhill and ski touring/splitboard can be rented through our rental partners, with which Phantom clients receive a discount.

Is it customary to tip your guide/pilot?

Tipping is a North American custom and a great way to show your guide your appreciation. Our guides/pilots keep 100% of the tips they receive.

Will we have lunch out in the field?

For trips on which meals are included, clients will receive an email where options for food and dietary restrictions will be taken into account. Feel free to pack your own snacks & hydration.

How much do we ski each day?

The amount you ski depends on the package you purchase and your allotted heli time. The average day of heli skiing will include 8-12 runs depending on the length. Fit and experienced skiers should expect to ski between 12,000 – 20,000+ vertical feet in a day. Additional runs/heli hours can also be purchased.

Can I bring alcohol or cannabis on my trip?

No. Due to safety regulations, no drug or alcohol use is permitted during operational hours. Save it for the Apres.

What happens if the weather does not allow us to fly?

If the weather/snow conditions do not allow us to fly/ski for the day we will refund your booking or apply the entire amount to another date.

What if I want to ski more than 6 runs?

Awesome, if conditions and time allow for us to ski more you will be given the option to continue.  Extra runs are billed at $180 per run per person.
