6 Whistler Events You Can’t Miss This Winter

There’s always something to do during Whistler’s wintertime – just look up at the mountains to see what we mean! But in addition to the countless outdoor recreation opportunities, there are special events and festivals taking place all the time throughout the winter season.

Pull out that day planner (or, more likely, calendar app) and get ready to input the following dates: they’re some of our favourite events taking place this winter season right here in Whistler.

Believe us when we say you won’t want to miss them – they’re partly what make Whistler so great this time of year. So, without further ado, we present: 6 Whistler events you simply cannot miss this winter!

This one is a no-brainer: the World Ski and Snowboard Festival (or WSSF) is the unofficial end of ski season send off event. There is skiing, snowboarding, free concerts, parties, contests, art shows, film and photography competitions… the list goes on. Our tip: don’t miss a single day of the festival – clear you calendar for the entire event, from April 10 to 19!

Snowed In Comedy Tour

Comedy and mountain towns: what’s not to love about the Snowed In Comedy Tour? Whistler is lucky enough to be a stop on this annual tour throughout Western Canada’s cities and ski towns. Check out Arj Barker, Paul Myrehaug, Craig Campbell, and Dan Quinn as they hit the stage at the GLC on January 20 and 21 – just sure to buy your tickets ahead of time, as the shows do sell out!

Now in its 23rd year, the Whistler Pride and Ski Festival is one of the first big festivals of 2015. Attracting people from more than 25 different countries, this 8-day festival is all about skiing, activities in the snow (like snowshoeing, zip lining, and snow tubing), music, great food, and – of course – parties! Don’t miss the events, which take place from January 24 to 31.

Peak to Valley Race presented by Smirnoff

You’re going to want to give those skis a fresh wax for the infamous Peak to Valley Race, taking place February 27 and 28. Gather three other people to form a team (which must be co-ed) to take part in this seriously fun downhill skiing event. You’ll see everything from former Olympic athletes to teams donning full costumes – it’s the perfect event for anyone with a competitive streak!

Have you ever snowshoed under the glow of a full moon? It’s a magical feeling that you’ll get to experience with the Luna program, which puts on alcohol-free events geared towards young adults. Head out to the Callaghan Valley on March 5. You’ll get to make new friends and – arguably the best part – toast some marshmallows in a roaring fire.

TEDActive 2015 Truth and Dare

You’ve probably heard of TEDTalks before, the huge conference that now takes place down the road in Vancouver. Whistler is lucky enough to host TEDActive, a satellite event that focuses on movers, shakers, and go-getters. This year’s theme is Truth or Dare… meaning just about anything can happen! Check it out from March 16 to 20.
