The May Long weekend is upon us and Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival (GOFEST) is cranking into high gear. Outdoor enthusiasts from around the province are arriving in Whistler to embrace the great outdoors, quench their thirst for adventure and connect with loved ones in nature’s greatest playground. So what can you expect to find at GOFEST 2016? Pretty much every outdoor sport imaginable will be on display and ready for you to try during the May Long weekend. Although we can’t list every activity available during GOFEST (or we’d be here all day), here is a snippet of the up and coming action to expect in Whistler this weekend.
Sport buffs can take their pick from a myriad of heart pumping activities taking place throughout the weekend. Bikers can take part in a WORCA toonie ride for those that love the trails or a bike maintenance clinic and  road cycling event with The Whistler Cycling Club. There is a tennis tournament plus introductory sessions and clinics available throughout the weekend. Get an introduction to sailing on Alta Lake or take part in the Go Sailing Regatta on Sunday. Zen out at yoga each morning in Mountain Square hosted by Lululemon. Learn how to stand up paddle board, race through a treetop adventure course, watch an iBubble soccer game and hit the sand to take part in a beach volleyball tournament on Sunday.
GOFEST is more than just outdoor recreation for those that want to explore their creative and cultural side. The Whistler Film Festival will be screening its Adventure Series during the weekend. Get messy and try your hand at Bear sculpting at the Crystal Lodge. There is digital photography workshop for beginner and novice photographers, a GoPro GoShow film competition, and various other art (and wine) events around the Village throughout the weekend. See a full list here.
Each night enjoy a free concert on the main stage in Village Square. Friday night is Dan Mangan a two time Juno award winner who will mesmerize the crowd with his thought provoking and emotionally compelling songs. Saturday night Grammy award nominated Alex Cuba will be playing on the main stage turning up the funk as he plays groovy and upbeat soul for the crowd. Finally on Sunday rock band The Matinee will play an energizing and alternative folk rock show, the perfect way to end an adrenaline infused weekend in Whistler.
Other events taking place during GOFEST throughout the Village include dog tricks and training for your canine friends, a Green Enivro Expo and Scavenger Hunt in Town Plaza, an all British car show in Olympic Plaza, jewellery making, kids drop in tennis, ping pong tournaments, street entertainment, the Farmers Market on Sunday and so much more! Make sure to check out the FULL GOFEST schedule so you don’t miss out.
If you haven’t already booked your accommodation in Whistler for May Long Weekend you still have time. There are great last minute deals available and it’s going to be a fun, action-packed weekend for all. See you at GOFEST!
