Ziplining in Whistler this Winter

Soar to new heights this winter with the amazing Ziptrek Whistler experience. Ziptrek is open year-round, so no rainy day excuses here. Combining pure adventure with education about Whistler’s centuries-old rainforest ecology, Ziptrek Whistler is a winter Must-Do! Experience the exhilaration of bravely stepping down the platform stairs, lifting your feet and soaring 180 ft above the ground, while reaching speeds of over 80 km/hr (50 mph). The harness system allows you complete freedom to move, look around, and even enjoy your zipline ride hanging upside down!

The Ziptrek Whistler tour area boasts 7 suspension bridges, 2 rigid aerial bridges, 10 treetop viewing platforms and a total of 10 ziplines. Ziptrek Whistler did exactly what it set out to accomplish — develop a product that approximates the feeling of flying. With comfortable harnesses and a revolutionary braking system, your flight will be smooth and safe. Better yet, Ziptrek is an environmentally progressive company, able to provide unparalleled adventures in an environmentally and socially responsible way.

How the Tours Work

The ziplines are gravity-fed, so guests do not have to worry about controlling their own speed. Two friendly tour guides will accompany guests on their tour, one guide to connect (launch platform) and one guide to disconnect (landing platform) each and every guest.

Ziptrek’s sales desk is located inside the Carleton Lodge in Whistler Village. Once checked in, and fitted with a harness and helmet, guests will be shuttled by the Whistler Gondola or by a van from Whistler Village to the top of the course. Guests will zipline over the rushing whitewater of Fitzsimmons Creek between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

Ziptrek Winter Tour FAQs

You sure can! Ziptrek runs two winter tours right from Whistler Village. The Eagle Tour runs daily all year round, and the Winter Après Tour runs through the winter season, heading out around dusk for an evening zip through the snowy forest.

If you want the full experience, go for the Eagle Tour. You’ll zip five lines, including a 2,400 ft zipline with a 30-storey descent. The Winter Après Tour is a little shorter at about 2 hours, with four ziplines starting around dusk, so it’s the perfect way to wrap up a day on the mountain.

The Eagle Tour takes 2.5 to 3 hours round trip, and the Winter Après Tour takes about 2 hours. Each zipline ride lasts around 30 to 45 seconds, depending on the line, your weight and the weather. The rest of the time is spent crossing treetop bridges, walking between platforms and soaking up the views.

The ziplines are gravity-fed, so there’s no steering or braking to learn, and a guide is waiting for you at every landing platform. If you get to the first launch and decide it’s not for you, the guides will bring you back to the village. Just keep in mind that tours aren’t refunded once they’ve started.

Winter temperatures in Whistler usually sit somewhere between -2°C and 5°C, and it can get colder, so dress like you’re heading out for a ski day. Wear warm layers with a waterproof jacket and snow pants, double up on socks, and choose boots with good grip, as there can be patches of ice on the trails. Go for a toque without a pom-pom so your helmet fits over it, and on snowy days, ski goggles are a great idea.

Bags, purses and backpacks aren’t allowed on the course, and there’s only limited storage for very small items. Small cameras are welcome as long as they fit in a pocket that zips or seals shut, and professional camera gear needs Ziptrek’s permission ahead of time. Want to relive the ride? GoPro footage of your tour can be added when you check in, on both tours.

Ziptrek runs rain or shine, so just dress for the forecast. If Ziptrek has to cancel for weather or safety reasons, you’ll be offered a full refund or a new date.

As early as you can, and at least a week ahead over Christmas, New Year’s and holiday weekends. Winter departures take a maximum of 8 people, so popular times fill up quickly. Same-day spots do come up, but your preferred tour or time may already be gone.

Yes, each departure needs at least two guests to run. If you’re booked on your own and no one else joins, Ziptrek will be in touch about paying for an extra spot, switching times or cancelling.

You can cancel up to 24 hours before your tour at no charge. Cancellations within 24 hours and no-shows are charged the full tour price, and groups of 10 or more need 72 hours’ notice. Please arrive on time, as late arrivals who miss the departure can’t join and are charged in full.

Kids can zipline from age 6 on both winter tours. Anyone under 15 needs to zip with a guardian aged 19 or older, and guests under 19 need a guardian to sign their waiver. Kids also need to meet the minimum weight to zip on their own: 75 lbs for the Eagle Tour and 65 lbs for the Winter Après Tour. On the Winter Après Tour, kids under 65 lbs can ride tandem with a guide instead.

You don’t need to be an athlete, but there is some light exertion involved. Both tours include several flights of stairs and some trail walking between platforms, and guests must be able to walk unassisted. Ziplining isn’t permitted during pregnancy, and if you’re unsure about your fitness, Ziptrek recommends checking with your doctor first.
