Whistler Mountain Season Start = Huge Success!

Whistler Blackcomb Opening Day 2013

Each year skiers and snowboarders in Whistler, BC make it their mission to obtain over 100 days up on the snow covered slopes of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain. This is made possible due the ridiculously long winter season that stretches from November to August— one of the longest ski and snowboard seasons in all of North America!

People flock from all corners of the world to max out Whistler’s healthy lifestyle that combines the thrills of sports and adventure and a great social scene. The annual 100 plus days tradition continues during the 2013/2014 winter season, which kicked off on November 16, 2013, with the opening of Whistler Mountain two weeks earlier than expected. And what an amazing start to the season it was!

After two weeks of successfully operating on Whistler Mountain, the operations team has since readied Blackcomb Mountain, which opened November 28, 2013 for Whistler locals and visitors to enjoy. “We are extremely excited to get guests up on both mountains and are proud of the hard work our operations teams have been putting into our opening days,” says Doug MacFarlene, Mountain Manager at Whistler Blackcomb. “We’ve been focusing on our snowmaking to help out Mother Nature and with our recent snowmaking upgrades on Blackcomb things are looking really good.  Again we would like to remind guests it is still early season, and it is important to obey signage and ski and ride on open runs only.”

Whistler and Blackcomb lifts and the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola have been transporting thousands of eager skiers, snowboarders, and sightseers, and with the opening of Whistler Blackcomb’s two new lifts on December 7, 2013, more terrain will be accessible, giving skiers and snowboarders faster access and more freedom to ski and ride the runs they love the most. The Harmony 6 high-speed chairlift alone will increase chair lift capacity by 50% of the previous quad chair, from 2,400 to 3,600 skiers and riders per hour.

There is no doubt that many people will obtain their 100 days of skiing or snowboarding up on the slopes of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountain, and Whistler Hotels wishes you a safe and memorable 2013/2014 winter season!
