WHISTLER LIFE

How To Celebrate Christmas in Whistler

If you’ve ever spent the holidays in Whistler, you know it’s very easy to get into the Christmas spirit around here.

With twinkling lights setting the Village aglow and a fresh layer of snow blanketing everything, Whistler is a real-life winter wonderland. It’s the perfect place to continue your family’s favourite holiday traditions or to start some new ones of your own.

If you’re lucky enough to be celebrating the season with your family in Whistler this year, there are some events that you will definitely want to check out. Pull out your calendar app and schedule these can’t miss events into your planner to get your Christmas on!

So You Want to Meet Santa

You want to spend some time with the Big Man himself? Santa Claus is pretty busy this time of year, but it just so happens that he’s scheduled a few appearances in Whistler ahead of the big day. Skate With Santa is a great opportunity to get some one-on-one time with Santa Claus: on Sunday, December 20 from 3 – 5 PM, head to the skating rink at Whistler Olympic Plaza and do a few laps on ice with Old Saint Nick. Bring your own skates and skate for free, or rent a pair for only $5.

If you can’t get enough of Santa, you’ll definitely want to head up the mountain on Saturday, December 19. Dress Like Santa Day takes place all day long – hundreds of skiers and snowboarders donning their finest Santa gear will take over the mountains, and it’s a downright jolly time The first 100 Santas get a free day pass, so you may want to consider getting your own Santa on.

Did You Finish Your Christmas List?

There aren’t many days left before Christmas, so if you haven’t already tackled your shopping list, now is the time to do it. Saturday, December 19 marks the final shopping Saturday before Christmas – and it also happens to be the first Made in Whistler Artisan Market of the season. Head to the Westin Resort and Spa between noon and 6 PM to pick up last minute gifts like jewelry, baked goods, art, clothing, and more – and the best part is that it was all made locally.

Your kids can check off those on their lists at Holiday Craft Days on December 22 and 23 at the Maury Young Arts Centre. These entry-by-donation drop-in workshops offer the perfect opportunity for them to pour their hearts into a handmade gift for mom or dad.

All That’s Left is to Deck the Halls!

Get your fa la la la la la la la la on at the Carols and Holiday Cheer event at the Whistler Public Library on Monday, December 21. Drop by from 3:30 to 4:30 PM for festive nibbles and drinks, and sing along to some of your favourite Christmas tunes. Who said libraries always have to be quiet?

After you’ve sang ‘til your voice has gone hoarse, head to the Christmas Eve Carol Service at the Westin Resort and Spa at 6:30 PM on the 24th. Let the pros – that is, the Whistler Children’s Chorus and Whistler Singers – serenade you with holiday classics. If there’s one event to officially launch your Christmas Day activities, this has got to be it.
