5 Reasons Why Crankworx Is Awesome

Crankworx, the festival of the summer season is upon us and everything bike related will be taking over Whistler. It's no doubt one of the highlights because of all the events, energy and endless activities that it brings. Aside from the obvious, there are some real perks of Crankworx that may go unnoticed. We've gathered up 5 reasons why Crankworx is even more awesome than you might think.

Lift lines

It would make sense that all the people coming to Whistler to be part of the festival, might make the lift lines in the Bike Park unbearable; But in fact, the opposite happens. The days are hot and everyone is spending time watching the events so the lift lines are minimal. For the most quiet time, visit the park in the early opening hours or late in the evening. Also, one of the best ways to watch the events is from the chair: front row seats and a birds eye view of the gravity fed competitions!

Demo's

Always wanted to try a particular bike? Crankworx is a great opportunity to demo just about any of next years models. Many companies come from all over and set up tents just for the public to learn and try their brand of bikes. Visit lot 2 in the day lots where all of the industries tents are located and take that dream bike out for a spin.

Racing

Watch the professional athletes come barreling down the mountain at mach speed and then try it yourself! Each race has an ameteur division which can be a great opportunity to try racing and really be part of Crankworx. This includes the Air DH and the Garbanzo Race. The Enduro world series also has a challenger race so you can get a taste for what it takes to compete in an enduro race. May sure to register early on as the they often sell out.

Art

Crankworx might seem like it is all about adrenaline but there is a lot of culture as well! The Dirt Diaries competition and the Deep Summer Photo Competition showcase the videography and photography of the action sport industry. Combining sport and art, participants have a limited amount of time to create a video or slideshow and then must present to viewers at The Olympic Plaza. The schedule is as follow for these events:

Dirt Diaries: Tuesday August 16th at Olympic Plaza 8:30 - 10:30pm

Deep Summer: Wednesday August 17th at Olympic Plaza 8:30 - 10:30pm

Food and Drink

Many of the local restaurants put on specials and have feature menu items just for Crankworx. This can be a great opportunity to eat at a restaurant you have been interested in or to try some local cuisine. There are also a number of drink specials in conjunction with the Crankworx parties. So eat, drink and bike!
